HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 26, 2023) – Fifth-year
Camryn Rogers scored six times over a five-minute stretch as No. 23 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse opened a 10-goal lead midway through the first quarter en route to a 25-1 victory over Delaware Valley University in a MAC Freedom contest Wednesday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Rogers finished the day with seven goals and an assist and sophomore
Emily Smart had two goals and two assists for her eighth straight mult-point performance as the Ducks won their eighth straight to improve to 15-1 on the year and to 7-0 in the MAC Freedom. The victory was the 10th consecutive in regular season conference competition for the Ducks, who still need to defeat Misericordia on the road Saturday afternoon to clinch the MAC Freedom's outright regular season title for the first time in program history.
Kiara Haywood-Rivera had the lone goal of the day for the Aggies, who dropped their sixth straight to fall to 3-12 on the year and to 1-7 in the MAC Freedom. The Ducks have won all three meetings in the all-time series.

It was all Stevens from the opening whistle. Cook corralled the first draw control of the game to give the Ducks the opening possession. Thirty-eight seconds later, Smart connected with Cook for the latter's first goal of the game. Cook would snag the ensuing draw control and a foul led to a free-position attempt for the Ducks, who instead opted to pull the ball out to work for a better shot and seven seconds later, Westerby found a cutting Rogers for her first of the day. Rogers' seven-goal effort pushed her career total at Stevens to 197.
The Ducks would score on all 12 shots on goal in the first quarter to build a 12-0 lead. Although Delaware Valley won two draws in the opening period, the Ducks didn't allow the Aggies to get settled on offense, forcing four turnovers and not allowing the Aggies to successfully clear the ball. When Delaware Valley was able to get an offensive zone possession, Cunniff summarily turned aside the shot.
Haywood-Rivera broke through for Delaware Valley, scoring 40 seconds into play in the second quarter. The momentum was short-lived, however, as Sellitto had her first of the day to reclaim the home team's 12-goal lead. The Ducks would score four more times in the period to send the teams into halftime with the Ducks holding a 17-1 lead.
A pair of Sellitto goals sandwiched Guerra's first of the day as the Ducks scored three times in the third quarter with the running clock. Smart would find the back of the net 77 seconds into the fourth and markers from Velardi, Mangano, Schmidt and Rogers provided the final margin of victory.
Stevens finished the day with a healthy 24-6 advantage in draw controls, including an 11-2 edge in the first quarter as the Ducks built their early advantage. The 24 draw controls were one shy of matching a program record. Sellitto led the Ducks' efforts in the circle, snagging a career-high eight. Westerby corralled five, while Rogers and Cook each had four. Ashley Birmingham had three to lead Delaware Valley.
The Ducks were successful on eight of their nine clears but were a perfect 4 for 4 in the first half. Conversely, Stevens didn't let Delaware Valley get comfortable in transition as the Aggies only found success on 3 of their 15 attempts, with all three successful Delaware Valley clears coming in the third quarter.
The Ducks forced the Aggies into 18 turnovers, with 12 being unforced. Six different players registered a caused turnover, including senior
Lauren Malicki and first-year
Eran Gleason. The disruptive Stevens defense also helped the Ducks gain a 15-6 edge in ground balls. Smart scooped up a game-high three, while Sellitto and Heilferty and first-year
Lauren Sullivan each picked up two. Birmingham and Olivia Sherwood each had two to pace Delaware Valley.
Guerra's first goal of the game came off a free-position shot as the Ducks went 1-2 from eight meters on the day. Conversely, the Ducks didn't concede a free-position shot to Delaware Valley.
