It was all Stevens early on as the Ducks scored twice in the opening three minutes. Cook scored at the 12:57 mark on an assist from Smart and Rogers tallied a free-position goal 25 seconds later as Stevens took a 2-0 lead. Sellitto made it 3-0 on a player advantage two minutes later. Despite the Ducks' hot start, Misericordia responded with four straight goals in a seven minute span to take their first lead of the game. Leiby then answered with a goal that tied the game at four heading into the second quarter.

The second frame featured just three goals compared to the nine scored in the first. Melanie Carbi scored early for the Cougars as they retook a one goal advantage. Neither team was able to score for the next ten minutes despite Leiby striking woodwork. At the 2:32 mark, Stevens tied the game as Smart found Zoe Cook for the goal. Exactly a minute later, the Cougars answered via Montanye. The home side led 6-5 at the half.

Misericordia scored just over four minutes into the second half which gave them their largest lead of the game. After five minutes of no scoring, Stevens put their sticks to work as they scored three times before the end of the quarter. Rogers scored twice while Leiby added one as the Ducks had all the momentum, heading into the fourth with a 8-7 lead.

Montanye scored less than a minute into the fourth tie things up. She would then score again six minutes later to put the Cougars back in front 9-8. With their backs against the wall, Stevens found an equalizer via Murphy with 3:55 left in the game. Rogers provided the assist. Looking for the winner, Rogers hit the post with 95 seconds to go. Neither team was able to strike again in regulation as the game headed to overtime.
