Rogers Records 200th Career Point at Stevens; Women's Lacrosse Blanks Wilkes

The shutout was the first for the Ducks since 2019.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 5, 2023) – Fifth-year Camryn Rogers recorded her 200th career point at Stevens while scoring four goals and adding an assist on the night as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team defeated Wilkes 21-0 Wednesday night in a MAC Freedom matchup at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

The Ducks improve to 10-1 on the year and 3-0 in conference play. Stevens also remains a perfect 6-0 in Hoboken this season. The shutout was the Ducks first of the season and first since April 7, 2019, when they beat Elmira 18-0.

Wilkes (3-9, 0-3 MAC Freedom) failed to score a goal for the second time this season, as they also were shutout in their season opener against Marywood University. It was also the first time in school history that Wilkes failed to score in a MAC Freedom game.

Sophomore Alison Lax led the team in points with a career high seven as she had two goals and a career high five assists. Fellow classmate Emily Smart tacked on a hat-trick to go along with two assists for a total of five points. Senior Julieann Murphy matched Rogers' four goals with four goals of her own. Fifth-year Morgan Westerby and senior Zoe Cook each had three points on the evening. First-years Stefanie Sellitto and Bella Mangano each had two points, as Sellitto scored twice and Mangano had two assists. Junior Emily Leiby, sophomore Alla Velardi, and first-year Maggie Zarish-Yasunas each scored one goal on the night. The goal for Zarish-Yasunas was the first of her career. First-year Hana Yang tallied her first career assist in the outing as well.

Graduate student Lauren Cunniff drew the start in the cage and made two saves in just over 17 minutes of action to earn her tenth win on the season. First-year Felicity Heilferty, sophomore Erica Strojny, and first-year Emma Guzowski all saw action in net but did not make a save in the contest.

After the Ducks scored twice less than two minutes into the game, Rogers scored her first goal of the game with 12:30 to go to reach the 200-point mark for her very accomplished career on Castle Point. Rogers totaled 19 points over 19 games at Rutgers University before transferring to Stevens. It was her 42nd of the season and Smart assisted on the play. Rogers scored all four of her goals in the first quarter of the game as the Ducks led 9-0 after the first frame.

Stevens was held scoreless for the first two minutes of the second quarter but Wilkes was not able to cut into the deficit during that period. The Ducks scored at the 12:45 mark as Murphy connected off of a free-position shot. Cook and Sellitto also scored in the quarter. Zarish-Yasunas scored her first career goal at the 3:43 mark on an assist from Cook. The goal gave Stevens a 13-0 lead going into the break.

The halftime break did not provide any relief for Wilkes as Stevens came out firing in the third. Smart struck just over a minute into the frame to put the Ducks up 14. Lax provided the assist and then scored herself three minutes later. Sellitto scored with 8:01 to go, and Yang recorded her first career assist on the play. Smart added two more goals in the final minute of the quarter to give Stevens a 18-0 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Ducks added three more goals in the fourth quarter as they cruised to a 21-0 victory. Murphy scored two goals in the frame while Velardi added one. Rogers and Mangano added assists in the fourth. Stevens did not allow a shot on target the whole second half as they improved to 4-0 all-time against the Colonels.

Stevens scored on all three of their free-position shots. Murphy, Westerby, and Lieby each converted for the home side. Wilkes did not convert on any of their two free-position attempts.

The Ducks held a 17 to eight advantage on draw controls in the contest. Rogers led the team with six while Sellitto had four. Zoe Cook added three. Leiby also added two while senior Colleen Shea and sophomore Marie Lindberger had one. Breanne Fulling recorded three for Wilkes.

The Ducks corralled a total of 17 ground balls in the contest. Zarish-Yasunas led the team with four. Senior Maddie Schmidt had three. Sellitto and Murphy added two. Rogers, Leiby, Shea, Mangano, Velardi, and first-year Eran Gleason each had one. Wilkes had seven ground balls and Amber DeJonge led the team with two.

Stevens caused 12 of the 17 Wilkes turnovers. Rogers, Yang, and fifth-year Josie Cook each had two. Six other Ducks had one. Wilkes caused three of the nine Duck turnovers.

Stevens went a perfect 19 for 19 on clears. The Colonels were just above 50% on clears as they went seven for 12.
