NORMAN, Okla. (May 17, 2023) – Junior Gus Vickers of the Stevens Institute of Technology golf team was named to the Ping All-Region 2 Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced late Tuesday. 

Vickers becomes just the third player in program history to earn the recognition, joining alumni Frank Szucs and Eddie Sot, who received the accolade in 2016 and 2022, respectively. 

Vickers entered play in the NCAA Tournament with a 76.24 scoring average. He won two tournaments during the regular season, including the MAC Freedom individual title, which the Naples, Florida native won for the second straight season, becoming just the eighth player in conference (Freedom, Commonwealth, College and University) history to do so. 

The third-year golfer had four rounds at par or better and had a season-best 2-under 70 to win the FDU Invitational on Sept. 19. Vickers also carded 46 birdies and two eagles entering the NCAA Tournament, where he added another two birdies to his season total in the opening round. 

A total of 117 golfers across seven regions were recognized by the GCAA. Each all-region selection is eligible for All-America honors.
