Women's Tennis Drops NCAA Tournament Match to No. 15 Johns Hopkins

The Ducks finish the season with a 11-10 record.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (May 6, 2023) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team lost to No. 15 Johns Hopkins University by a score of 5-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The match was hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Ducks finished the season with an 11-10 record. Stevens also rallied off a perfect 7-0 MAC Freedom record en route to winning the MAC Freedom Championship. After taking down Husson yesterday, the Ducks won an NCAA Tournament game for the second straight season.

In doubles, Graduate student Agatha Malinowski and first-year Stephanie Untermeyer fell in the first match by a score of 8-0 against Kamila Wong and Jay Xiao on line one. Sophomore Emma Eguia and first-year Anya Sharma also fell on line two by a score of 8-3 against Mary Beth Hurley and Emily Javedan. Junior Polina Odintseva paired with sophomore Isabella Dona lost on line three 8-0 against Anjali Devireddy and Christina Huynh as Johns Hopkins completed the doubles sweep.

Since the teams play first to five, the Blue Jays needed just two wins in singles play to advance. On line five, Dona dropped her match against Niamh Harding by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Johns Hopkins then earned the clinching point on the sixth line as Celina Liu defeated first-year Fionna Flores 6-0, 6-2. Stevens trailed in all four of the other singles matches that would be declared unfinished. Hurley led Untermeyer 6-2, 2-2, on the first line. On the second line, Xiao led Malinowski 6-0, 5-1. Odintseva trailed Huynh 6-0, 5-1 on line three, and Alison Bader led Eguia 6-0, 3-1 on the fourth line to wrap up the unfinished matches.
