HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 10, 2023) - The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team failed to score as they fell to New York University (NYU) 3-0 in a non-conference match on Sunday evening at the DeBaun Athletic Complex. The game was a part of the 19th Stevens Engineering Cup. With the win, NYU won the cup. Calvin would end up finishing in second, followed by Stevens and then Widener in last.
The Ducks (0-3-1) remain winless to start the 2023 campaign. It is the worst start to a season since 2009, when Stevens lost their first eight games to begin the year. NYU (4-0-0) is off to a perfect start this season, winning all four games without conceding a goal.
It was all Violets early on as they peppered Stevens out of the get go. They forced two saves out of senior Dana Perry within the first six minutes until they finally found the back of the net in the seventh minute. It wouldn't take long for NYU to double their advantage as they struck again in the 11th minute off of a mishap by Perry. NYU would continue to pressure for the following eight minutes until they made substitutions. NYU maintained their 2-0 lead at the break.
Stevens came out more aggressive in the second half but still were unable to register a shot on target. NYU tagged on their third goal in the 69th minute to extend their lead. Stevens would be unable to claw their way back into the game as NYU held on for the 3-0 win to take the tournament.
