HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 26, 2023) – Senior Elle Maggio had nine kills, five digs, and two blocks, as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated FDU-Florham 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-16) Tuesday evening inside Canavan Arena
The Ducks (7-4, 2-0 MAC Freedom) remain perfect in conference play to start the season. They have also improved to 13-2 all-time against FDU-Florham (8-6, 0-2 MAC Freedom). The Ducks have never lost to the Devils since joining the MAC Freedom.
The Rundown
- Stevens earned the victory with a .427 hitting percentage, while FDU-Florham hit -.069 percent.
- The two teams felt each other out early on in the match as they split the first 12 points. Stevens would then win the next six points to go up 12-6 but then allowed the Devils to score three straight to get back in it. Now at 12-9, Stevens rattled off nine straight, highlighted by three kills from senior Liz Patterson to put the Ducks up big. They won the set 25-12.
- The second set was even better for the Ducks as they got off to a 7-4 start followed by a 10-0 run to lead 17-4. Senior Madison Sappia had three aces on the run. The Ducks would win the set easily, 25-7.
- Stevens carried their momentum into the fourth set as they got off to a 4-0 start, although FDU responded with four back to tie it up. Stevens would go on to score nine of the next 12 points to open up another big lead, which would allow them to complete the sweep of FDU by winning the final set 25-16.
