MADISON, N.J. (September 30, 2023) - Graduate Rachel Rouse scored her first goal of the season as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team defeated FDU-Florham 1-0 in a MAC Freedom match Saturday afternoon.
The Ducks (2-5-2, 1-0-0 MAC Freedom) won their second straight game of the season. FDU-Florham (7-4-1, 0-1-0 MAC Freedom) lost their opening match of conference play. Senior Amelia Rehrig, coming off of a two-goal performance in the last outing, recorded a shot on target just two minutes in but her attempt was stopped. Rouse would then later hit the post in the 18th minute. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the half as the score remained tied at zero at the break.
Stevens kept applying pressure in the second half as senior Nina Burden and Rehrig produced shots on target early in the half that were stopped. The Ducks finally found the breakthrough in the 72nd minute as Rouse was able to convert on an assist from senior Gab Aloe to put Stevens up 1-0. Just minutes later, Rouse would attempt a penalty in an effort to double the Ducks' advantage but her shot was saved. Stevens would close out the game to win 1-0 and start off MAC Freedom play undefeated.
