Men's Basketball Handles Arcadia For 85-63 Victory

The Ducks shot 61 percent from the field and 60 percent from three.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 10, 2024) - Graduate student Stephen Braunstein scored 22 points and had two assists while the Ducks shot 61 percent from the field as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team defeated Arcadia 85-63 in MAC Freedom play Wednesday night inside Canavan Arena.

Stevens last shot 61 percent back on January 9, 2020 against FDU-Florham. The Ducks jump back into the win column as they improve to 11-3 and 2-1 in MAC Freedom play. Stevens is now 8-1 in Hoboken this season. The Ducks also improved to 3-0 in games following a loss this season. Arcadia fell to 8-6 and 1-2 in MAC Freedom play with the loss. Stevens now sits in third place in the conference while Arcadia is fifth.

It was an even game for the first 12 minutes as both teams scored 12 points and remained knotted. Braunstein and graduate student Conor Coffey each had four of the first 12. A three-pointer from first-year Tommy Scholl saw the Ducks go up 17-15 at the 11:04 mark. The Knights did not back down from the competition and with just over six minutes to go in the first, they held a five-point advantage. The Ducks responded with a 10-0 run to go up five themselves. Braunstein kick-started it with an and-one layup, followed by jumpers from sophomore Matt Leming and Xander Singh, and capped off with a triple from senior Mike Goodall. Stevens never trailed the rest of the game, and held a 43-34 advantage at the half.

Arcadia scored the first two points out of the break, but the Ducks came back with back-to-back threes from Singh and Goodall to go up 13. The next Stevens basket was also a Goodall three. The next three minutes provided a back and forth between the two teams until Braunstein made a triple 14:15 on the clock. The Duck lead grew to 19 after a layup from graduate student Tommy McGuire with just over 10 minutes left. The Ducks went up 20 with 7:16 left in the game after Braunstein made another triple. Stevens would lead by at least 20 the rest of the way as they got another MAC Freedom victory. Braunstein, Leming, and first-year Harmehar Chhabra each made triples down the stretch to secure the win.
