Women's Swimming Falls to the United States Merchant Marine Academy 146-166 In Home Finale

The Ducks are now 2-4 all-time against USMMA.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 20, 2024) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) 146-116 Saturday afternoon inside the DeBaun Aquatic Center.

The Ducks are now 2-4 all-time against the Mariners, including losing the last two in the series. They are also 1-2 in the series at home against USMMA.

Stevens celebrated senior day, honoring seniors Claire Hannan and Keenan Yates.

Top Performers

  • Junior Kai Wong, sophomore Adriana Bertolotti, sophomore Natalia Brunetti, and Yates placed first in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking in at 1:54.13. 
  • Wong also placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.76. She also came in second in the 100-yard freestyle.
  • Junior Sophie Patz had two first place finishes, as she was tops in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM. Her times were 2:14.55 and 2:19.28, respectively.
  • Bertolotti continued her solid day with a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.21. She also placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:39.28.
  • Brunetti also had an impressive meet. On top of the relay time, she was second in the 200-yard butterfly, timing in at 2:22.94. Her 1:03.07 in the 100-yard butterfly was good for third place.
  • Sophomore Gabby Tyer finished behind Brunetti in the 200-yard butterfly, tallying a time of 2:24.12. Tyer also finished first on the team and third overall in the 500-yard freestyle (5.40.14).
  • First-year Abigail Rosingana placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:47.30).
  • Junior Melissa Misurelli claimed third spot in the 200-yard freestyle, as she timed in at 2:04.90.

For the Opponents

  • Senior Annie Hood claimed victories in the 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly, and the 200-yard butterfly.
  • Junior Laura Sherrill finished in second place in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.52 and second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.39) while also helping in the 400-free relay to a third-place time of 4:00.48.
