Goodall Pours in 28 Points to Lead Comeback Against Arcadia

The 28 points was a career-high for the senior.

GLENSIDE, Pa. (January 31, 2024) - Senior Mike Goodall recorded a career-high 28 points, while junior Jack Spellman scored a season-high 26 points and added 13 rebounds, as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team defeated Arcadia 82-80 in MAC Freedom play Wednesday night.

The Ducks improved to 16-4 and 7-2 in MAC Freedom play. Stevens is now on a four-game winning streak. The Ducks are now 6-1 all-time against Arcadia, including winning both matchups this season. The Knights fell to 12-8 and 4-4 in the MAC Freedom. Stevens jumps into second place in the conference standings while Arcadia is in fourth. The top four teams qualify for the MAC Freedom tournament.

The two teams traded a pair of buckets early before graduate student Stephen Braunstein and Spellman buried back-to-back threes to put the Ducks up 10-4. A few minutes later, the Knights went on a 13-2 run to take a 19-14 lead. The Ducks answered with a 11-0 run to go up 27-19. Spellman kicked off the run with a made jumper and graduate student Conor Coffey followed with a layup. Spellman would score three more points on the run while Goodall scored five to complete the run. Up 29-19, Stevens gave up another big run to Arcadia, this time nine, to get within one. With 2:59 to go, first-year Xander Singh made his first basket of the game as it came from long range and put Stevens up six. Spellman scored the final points of the half with 32 seconds to go as the Ducks led 38-35 at the half.

Arcadia had the better start to the half as they were able to get out in front and maintain the lead for most of the half. Goodall scored eight of the first nine Duck points out of the half. With 7:28 to go in the half, the Ducks found themselves down 11. On the next possession, Braunstein made a three to get Stevens back within eight. Arcadia scored on their next possession, but the Ducks followed with back-to-back jumpers from Goodall. Spellman would then score five straight to get the Ducks within four with less than five minutes to go. The Knights would go back up six but Spellman would bring it back down to four with 1:58 remaining on the clock with the score reading 80-76. The Ducks would then score on their next two possessions while not letting Arcadia score, as Goodall scored once again, followed by a huge triple from Braunstein to put the Ducks up one with 29 seconds to go.
