No. 25 Field Hockey Surges Past FDU-Florham , 4-1

Madison, N.J. – The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team netted three second-half goals to pull away from FDU-Florham 4-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action on Wednesday.

Sophia Cozza, Gabi Moroney, Molly DiCampli, and Kylee Scherer had goals for Stevens (9-4, 2-0 MAC Freedom), as Julianna Medina scored for FDU-Florham (6-7, 1-1 MAC Freedom).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks registered the only three shots in the first period, with Sarah Kurczukowski registering the lone shot on target with 30 seconds left in the stanza. The Stevens defense limited FDU to no shots and just one penalty corner in the frame. 

Stevens continued to control play, outshooting FDU 6-0 in the second period while taking both penalty corners. The Ducks successfully broke through first, as Scherer was able to knock a ball into the cage off a scramble off a corner. The Ducks had three shots in the final 11 seconds, but the keeper stopped DiCampli and Alisyn Fink. Stevens entered halftime with a 1-0 lead and held a 9-0 advantage in shots over the first 30 minutes.

Korczukowski and Moroney were stopped in succession in the 36th minute before Sophia Cozza and Korczukowski had tries blocked off penalty corners a minute later. The Devils notched their first shot on goal of the evening in the 39th minute, with Lily Wierzbicki stopping Abigail Antipas. The Ducks doubled their lead in the 41st minute as Korczukowski collected an assist on the Moroney marker.

FDU cut into the lead 3:56 into the fourth quarter, with Medina scoring off a corner. Stevens re-established the two-goal lead in the 53rd minute, as off a corner, Lauren Flynn's shot was knocked in by DiCampli, extending the gap to 3-1. Cozza capped off the scoring with 2:20 left, netting an unassisted goal. The Ducks had two additional tries in the final minute, but Makenna Quigley and Taylor Brooks were denied.
