No. 25 Field Hockey Topples Delaware Valley 8-0

Hoboken, N.J. – The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team blanked Delaware Valley University 8-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Saturday morning.

Gabi Moroney scored twice for Stevens (10-4, 3-0 MAC Freedom) as Alyssa Rudd made nine saves for Delaware Valley(6-10, 1-2 MAC Freedom).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks wasted little time, putting their first shot of the game into the goal. Jess Kopernick used a solid individual effort, dribbling in untouched before rifling a shot past the Aggies goalkeeper. Lily Wierzbicki made a stop on the Delaware Valley opening try before Stevens fired six consecutive shots that did not find the back of the net. Stevens doubled their advantage in the 10th minute, as Gabi Moroney redirected a Sophia Cozza pass for her 12th marker of the season.

Stevens continued to control play, tacking on a third marker with 5:34 remaining in the second period.
Kylee Scherer took a shot off a corner that inserter Makenna Quigley deflected in, making it 3-0. The Ducks took the 3-0 advantage into halftime, as they outshot their opponents 16-3 in the first 30 minutes.

The home side needed just 1:42 to extend their lead further, as Sarah Korczukowski controlled the ball along the end line, spun through traffic in
front, and shot a backhanded shot that eluded the keeper to stretch the gap to four. Nearly five minutes later, Moroney added her second marker of the game, tipping in a Korczukowski attempt. With 1:37 left in the third, Taylor Brooks stretched the lead to six, blasting a shot from just inside the circle. The Ducks defense fought off two penalty corners over the last three seconds to go into the fourth up six.

Scherer registered her first goal on the day in the 49th minute, firing from the top of the circle. Stevens capped off the scoring in. the 54th minute as Ava Pelletier converted a pass from Jenna Piantieri. Pelletier's shot trickled over the goal line, cementing the final 8-0 scoreline.
