Hicks Leads Women's Fencing At Sharktank Challenge

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team competed in four bouts at the Sharktank Challenge, hosted by Long Island University, on Sunday.

The Ducks (0-4) fell to Wellesley College (20-7), Drew University (15-12), NJIT (14-13), and host LIU (17-10).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks had their most success on the day in Sabre weapon group, winning three of the four battles. Sabre, led by three wins from Sasha Craine and two from Ashlyn Leung, bested Drew 5-4. Craine and Leung won twice against NJIT, as Alyssa Ip notched another win in a 5-4 weapon group win against the Highlanders. The trio also registered three victories against LIU, helping Stevens win that weapon group against the Sharks.

Foil fell 5-4 to Wellesley, Drew, and NJIT while also losing to LIU 8-1. Elizabeth MacDonald was impressive against the Rangers, going 3-0, with Julia DiPaolo notching one win against Drew. DiPaolo won a pair against NJIT, with MacDonald and Emily Zgombic adding one, as MacDonald tallied the lone win against LIU. Despite getting clipped 5-4 against Wellesley, MacDonald, Zgombic, DiPaolo, and Akemi Rodriguez picking up a victory.
