Annville, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team continued their dominance at both ends of the pitch Saturday afternoon during a 5-0 win over Lebanon Valley in MAC Freedom play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After 12 shots in the first 33 minutes, Stevens (9-4-2, 5-0 MACF) finally broke through in the 35
th minute when
Sophia Murphy ripped a left-footed strike to the low left corner from several steps beyond the 18-yard box.
As the first half clock ticked under five minutes,
Olivia Castro tapped home a corner kick from the left that found its way through a mass of traffic into the six-yard box by the right post for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Sarah Wnorowski made it 3-0 early in the second half when Lebanon Valley (6-8-2, 0-3-2 MACF) goalkeeper Camryn Porter didn't get enough of a shot from 12 yards out to stop it from crossing the goal line.
Luciana Roidrigues and Murphy (her second of the day) put the icing on the cake in the 57
th and 58
th minute, respectively. Rodrigues fired one right at Porter that deflected off her hands into the lower left corner; Murphy was positioned perfectly to tap home a loose ball in front after a cross into the box deflected off a Dutchmen defender.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Stevens scored at least four goals for the sixth straight match and shut out their seventh straight opponent. Both of those streaks are the longest for the program since at least 2010.
- Ducks improved to 3-0 all-time against the Dutchmen, outscoring them 13-1 during those three matches.
- The Ducks' 5-0 start to conference play marks the first such occurrence since going 7-0 during its first year in the MAC Freedom in 2019-20.
- Lebanon Valley, who came in averaging two goals and 13 shots over its last three matches, was held to just two attempts.
- The 26-shot discrepancy (28-2) matched the largest margin for the Ducks this season (Potsdam, September 7).
FROM THE FIELD
"That was a really solid performance against a well-organized team. Leb Valley made it difficult the first half but we just had to keep creating chances and we knew they would go in eventually. It was nice to get a few other names on the score sheet and in the assist column as well! They were well deserved." – Head Coach
Stuart Dick.
