Hoboken, N.J. – The No. 24 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team set a season-high with eight goals in an 8-0 win over William Paterson University Saturday from the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Nine different Ducks recorded at least one point, six different players scored a goal, and two scored two each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After pestering William Paterson (2-7) goalkeeper Sofia Chebookjian with five shots on goal within the first seven minutes, Stevens (7-4) got on the board midway through the opening quarter when junior
Gabi Moroney scored off an assist from senior
Sarah Korczukowski. Fellow senior
Makenna Quigley made it 2-0 less than four minutes later off feeds from classmates Korczukowski and
Emily Smart. William Paterson did not record a shot until the final two minutes of the period, which junior goalkeeper
Lily Wierzbicki turned aside.
Smart added her first goal of the day less than 30 seconds into the second quarter, redirecting a ball into the circle off the stick of sophomore
Jenna Piantieri. Sophomore
Molly DiCampli converted a penalty stroke to make it 4-0 just over two minutes later. After another five shots on goal and six penalty corners, the Ducks tacked on their fifth and final goal of the opening 30 minutes courtesy of sophomore
Taylor Brooks in the final four minutes.
Smart got the Ducks off to a quick start in the second half, notching her second of the day less than 90 seconds in, then assisted on DiCampli's second of the day four minutes later. Sophomore
Jess Kopernick tacked on the final goal of the day less than four minutes after DiCampli's.
Prior to the game, the Ducks celebrated senior day, honoring Korczukowski,
Makenna Quigley, Smart,
Alisyn Fink, as well as graduate student
Julia Zatyko.
