Field Hockey Plows Through King's (Pa.) 8-0 Ahead of MAC Freedom Semis

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team scored three times in the first quarter, six times in the first half, and held King's College (Pa.) to three shots total in an 8-0 win to wrap the regular season and clinch the No. 2 seed in next week's MAC Freedom Field Hockey Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (13-5, 6-1 MACF) got goals from Sarah Korczukowski and Gabi Moroney within the first four minutes, Korczukowski knocking in a ball from the side of the stick of Taylor Brooks and Moroney redirecting a Korczukowski shot off a penalty corner. Sophia Cozza tucked a backhand opportunity into the lower right corner of the cage late in the quarter.

Moroney added her second of the day to open the second quarter trifecta, getting behind the King's goalkeeper and knocking home a loose ball. Ava Pelletier made it 5-0 near the midway point of the corner, putting away a loose ball of a post-penalty corner scramble. Skyler Rill made it 6-0 to close out the first-half barrage as she scored off an assist from Kylee Scherer.

Cozza made it 7-0 early in the third with a long shot after denying a King's (4-15, 0-7 MACF) attempted clearance and Brooks made it 8-0 with a low, hard shot near the midway point of the corner for the final goal of the night.

Lily Wierzbicki and Julianna O'Sheal each played a half and each recorded a save, combining for the shutout.
