Volleyball Takes Down Stockton, Skidmore

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team knocked off Stockton University and Skidmore College in the final home tri-match of the season on Saturday.

The Ducks (22-6) topped Stockton 23-25, 27-25, 25-17, and 25-23 before downing Skidmore 25-21, 25-16, and 25-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stockton jumped on Stevens early, registering 10 of the first 14 points. The home side got within one on an Elle Maggio ace, trimming the deficit to 11-10. Cleo Shannon and Meg Dion put down consecutive kills to make it 15-all before Stockton answered with four straight markers. Stevens took their first lead of the match on the heels of a 5-1 run, with Ella Kraver notching a kill and Maggio serving up an ace. The Ospreys claimed set one with the final three points, all of which came on kills.

With the guests up 4-3 in set two, Vivian Lisboa put down a Molly Harris set to kickstart three consecutive points. Stevens used an 8-3 run to take a three-point lead at 17-14, with Kraver and Dion tallying two kills apiece. A double-block from Stockton brought up set point, but two straight hitting errors gave Stevens a one-point lead. A service error put Stevens up one, and a tandem block from Lisboa and Maggio evened the contest at one all.

Stevens used an early 7-1 spurt in set three to jump ahead 8-4, as Shannon put home two kills with Parker Adkins and Bailey Axelrad serving aces. Three straight Maggio kills extended the gap to six before strong from Paulina Miller extended the margin to double-figures. Miller had two aces during the run before the Ducks went up 2-1 on a service error.

The Ducks went up 11-4 in the fourth frame, taking advantage of four straight attack errors and an Axelrad ace. The Ospreys battled back, tying the period at 17 after an 11-5 run. Stevens took the lead back after an errant serve, and a Shannon kill coupled with a Kraver ace made it 20-17. The Ospreys got within one at 24-23, but Harris set Lisboa up for a match-ending kill, sealing the win.

Against Skidmore, the Ducks jumped in front 13-10 after a 7-3 run. Parker Adkins had three during the run. The hosts tallied three out of four points midway through the period, as Dion had every kill. The Thoroughbreds evened the opening frame at 21 after a 7-2 run, but Lisboa halted the run with a kill. The kill helped Stevens notch the final four markers to go up 1-0.

In set two, 13 of the first 18 points went in Stevens' favor, with Maggio recording four kills and Lisboa tallying three consecutive kills. The guests got as close as six, but Mallory Eder stopped the comeback with a kill. That started a 6-0 spurt, with Adkins carving up the defense with two aces. Shannon, Lisboa, and Maggio collected the last three points on kills, putting the hosts in the driver's seat.

The third stanza was all Stevens, as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead. The gap swelled to double digits with Lisboa serving, as the junior had two aces as Eder put away two kills. After the guests got within six at 20-14, Stevens closed the match with five of the last six markers. A block by Eder and Lisboa made it 23-15, an Eder kill brought up match points, and the duo of Kileen McNeill and Alexa Brucculeri teamed up for a block to clinch the win.
