New York, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team got double-digit scoring efforts from five players in a 75-53 win over Baruch College Tuesday night.
Tommy Scholl had a game-high 18 points in just 22 minutes of action for Stevens (4-2),
Kyle Maddison was right behind him with 17,
Brendan Coughlan and
Mike Goodall had 11 points apiece, and
Jack Spellman finished with 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Baruch (2-5) went up 7-2 early, but layups from Goodall and Scholl plus a three from Maddison knotted the score at nine. After trading threes, Goodall answered a Bearcats' floater with another three, putting Stevens up for the first time in the contest.
After swapping the lead back and forth on consecutive possessions, a Coughlan three-point play, a Coughlan layup, and a Scholl three-ball put Stevens up double digits, 26-16.
The teams traded four points apiece before a Maddison layup and another Leming three pushed the lead to 35-20. Two Spellman free throws and a Goodall three-pointer kept the margin at 15 heading to the locker room.
Stevens maintained at least a 12-point cushion through the first 6+ minutes of the second half before a Baruch three-ball cut the Ducks' lead to 48-39 at the 13:43 mark. Baruch cut the lead under 10 a second time at the 9:28 mark, 51-45, but an 11-2 spurt capped with a Scholl three-pointer again put Stevens up by 15, 62-47, at the 6:34 mark.
The lead slowly ballooned to 18 at the 3:42 mark, 20 at the 2:23 mark, and 22 at the 1:35 mark; in all, Stevens outscored Baruch 24-8 over the final 9:28, holding the Bearcats scoreless for the final 4:53
