Men's Basketball Concludes Regular Season With Victory At FDU-Florham

Stevens will be the #2 seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament.

MADISON, N.J. (February 17, 2024) - First-year Xander Singh scored a career-high 20 points and had four steals as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team defeated FDU-Florham 82-64 in MAC Freedom play Saturday afternoon.

The Ducks improved to 20-5 and 11-3 in MAC Freedom play. The Ducks won eight of their last nine games to close the season. The Ducks improved to 6-1 all-time against the Aggies, including sweeping the season series. The Devils fall to 4-21 and 1-13 in the MAC Freedom. Stevens already clinched the #2 seed in the MAC Freedom playoffs. DeSales has clinched the #1 seed, while Arcadia is #3 and Misericordia will be #4. Stevens will host Arcadia next Wednesday in the MAC Freedom semifinals.

Singh kicked off the game with back-to-back triples for the Ducks followed by a deep ball from graduate student Conor Coffey. Later with the Ducks up 13-2, Singh converted an alley-oop on a dime from Coffey to go up 13. Singh would later make a hook shot that gave Stevens a 19-7 lead with 11:56 left in the half. First-years Tommy Scholl and Richard Machado got into the action with buckets back-to-back midway through the half. With 5:46 to go, graduate student Stephen Braunstein hit from downtown to put the Ducks in front 30-17. He would hit again with 1:18 remaining, as the Ducks took a 39-25 lead into the half.

The Ducks continued to lead throughout the second half. The Devils would score the first five points, but Singh hit yet another triple to put the Ducks back up 12. FDU-Florham cut the deficit down to six with 13:02 to go after going on a 7-0 run. Senior Frank Gelfman converted an and-one with 11:39 left on the clock that put Stevens back in front by 11. The Devils wouldn't go away, getting back to within six once again. Braunstein made a jumper with 9:18 to put Stevens ahead by eight. In the next five minutes, Stevens scored 10 points at the free throw line, as they extended their lead to 69-56. Singh followed with a jumper that put Stevens up 15 with under three minutes remaining. The Ducks would continue to convert free throws down the stretch as they concluded the regular season with a victory.

  • Braunstein scored 19 points and added seven rebounds.
  • Coffey tallied 13 points, six assists, and five boards.
  • Machado added 11 points.
  • Senior Mike Goodall recorded nine points and five rebounds.
  • Stevens shot 38.2 percent (21-55) from the field and 31.6 percent (6-19) from three. The Ducks also went 34-44 (77.3%) from the line.
