The Rundown

  • It was a close set early on as the two teams split the first 14 points. Weirick had two kills in the early going. Stevens then took a 9-7 lead after back-to-back kills from sophomore Tyler Hoke and first-year Alex Olcott. Now up 10-9, the Ducks scored five of the next six points to take a 15-10 lead. Herbst contributed two kills to the run, while graduate student Christopher Varseveld had an ace. The Hawks scored the next two points, but the Ducks closed the set on a 9-3 run, capped off by a kill from Herbst, to win the first and take the early set lead over Hunter.
  • Hunter tallied the first two points of the second set, which the Ducks quickly answered. Still tied at six all, the Ducks rattled off three straight points to up 9-6. All three came off of Hawk errors. Huyke got into the action with a kill that kicked off a mini 3-0 run to put the Ducks in front 14-8. Leading 15-10, the home side took six of the next seven points, capped off by an ace from Herbst to take a commanding 21-11 lead. Stevens would win the set 25-12.
  • Aiming for the sweep, Stevens led 4-3 after the first seven, with junior Hunter Schmidt tallying a kill for the Ducks. Later up 11-8, Stevens again scored three straight and seven of the next eight, with Levandoske recording three kills on the streak.
