Baseball Picks Up First MAC Freedom Win After Beating Lebanon Valley 7-2

Kreiser delivered three RBI in the final two innings, while Sibbach picked up his fourth win of the year.

ANNVILLE, Pa. (March 16, 2024) – Senior Christian Kreiser had two hits and three RBI while junior Zachary Boykin recorded two hits and scored twice as the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team defeated Lebanon Valley 7-2 Saturday afternoon in a MAC Freedom contest.

Sophomore Erik Sibbach (4-1) earned the victory for the Ducks. He went six and two-thirds and gave up just one run on three hits. He also struck out three. Junior Joe Gonzalez pitched 1.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits. Senior Axel Johnson finished the game for Stevens, allowing one hit and striking out one in an inning pitched.

The Ducks (8-5, 1-2 MAC Freedom) have now won two straight after losing five in a row. The victory marks the first MAC freedom win of the season for Stevens.

With the win, Stevens improves to 1-2 all-time against the Dutchmen. Stevens lost twice to Lebanon Valley last Saturday in Florida. Lebanon Valley fell to 7-6 (2-1 MAC Freedom) with the loss.

The Rundown

  • With two outs in the top of the second, Boykin stood tall and drew a walk. He then stole second and third to put a runner in scoring position. Junior Liam DeRubertis would hit a single to right in the next at-bat for Stevens as they took an early 1-0 lead.
  • Lebanon Valley tied the game with one run in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Stevens tacked on another run in the top of the seventh to retake the lead. Similarly to the second, Boykin drew a walk followed by a DeRubertis single to put runners on first and second. The next at-bat for the Ducks would be a fly-out to center, allowing Boykin to get to third. Graduate student Ben Tobio would bring Boykin home in the next at-bat, as his sacrifice fly was dropped by the Dutchman's center fielder.
  • Kreiser hit a solo shot in the top of the eighth to put Stevens up 3-1.
  • The Dutchmen scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to get back within one. They scored the run with no outs and had runners still on second and third, but were unable to score the tying run.
  • The Ducks added four insurance runs in the ninth en route to victory. Junior Colby Ching kick started the inning with a single. Tobio followed that with a bunt single. Senior Kieran O'Brien would then ground into a fielder's choice, putting himself at first and Tobio at second. After Tobio and O'Brien advanced a base each because of a passed ball, junior Eli Somers was intentionally walked. With the bases loaded, first-year Garret Wolf delivered a two-RBI double to right center. Kresier followed with two RBI himself on a single.
