No. 11 Women's Lacrosse Remains Undefeated After 14-6 Victory Over Cabrini

Emily Leiby recorded her 100th career point in the game.

RADNOR, Pa. (March 23, 2024) - Senior Emily Leiby scored four goals and had two assists, while graduate student Zoe Cook added four goals, as the No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team defeated Cabrini 14-6 in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon.

Leiby reached 100 career points in the outing.

The Ducks start the year 7-0 for the third-straight season. The victory was the third road win of the year for Stevens. The eight-goal margin is the second largest margin of victory this year. The Ducks are now 6-2 all-time against the Cavaliers, winning six straight. Cabrini drops to 5-2 with the loss.

After seven scoreless minutes to open the game, it was the Cavaliers who jumped on the scoreboard first. Just 16 seconds after the Cabrini goal, junior Alison Lax found the back of the net to tie things up. 35 seconds after Lax's goal, Leiby scored the goal that earned her 100 career points, with junior Emily Smart assisting on the play. The two Emily's would link up again with 5:19 remaining as the Ducks went up 3-1. The Ducks would add one more before the end of the first, as Leiby assisted sophomore Stefanie Sellitto to put Stevens up three. Cabrini scored the first goal of the second quarter to get within two, but Stevens scored the next two, coming off the sticks of junior Anna Velardi and Zoe Cook, as the Ducks went up 6-2. The Cavaliers would score their third with just under five minutes to go, but Sellitto answered with a free-position goal to put the Ducks back up four. Sellitto would add another on an assist from Smart, while Leiby added a free-position goal, as the Ducks took a 9-3 lead into the break.

Cabrini took some control back in the third quarter as they managed to score three times, including one a player down. Zoe Cook had the lone goal in the quarter, as she scored with a player advantage with 7:37 left in the quarter, Velardi assisted the goal. Stevens would lead 10-6 after three. Needing to find some momentum, Leiby delivered again for the Ducks, scoring from a free-position shot with 9:57 to go to put Stevens back up five. The two teams would play solid defense for most of the quarter, but Velardi came through again from a free-position shot with just over three minutes remaining. Zoe Cook would add two more in the final minute and a half as the Ducks remain perfect in 2024.
