Softball Gets Blanked Twice at Kean

The Ducks fall to 10-8.

UNION, N.J. (March 26, 2024) – Four Ducks picked up a hit as the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team lost to Kean 8-0 (F/6) in game one and 8-0 (F/5) in game two Tuesday night in a non-conference doubleheader. 

Sophomore Kyra Fischer (6-5) took the loss in game one. She pitched five and two-thirds innings and gave up 13 hits and eight runs. She also had six strikeouts.

Sophomore Ella Tozduman (1-2) took the loss in the game. She allowed six hits. Seven of the eight Kean runs were unearned.

The Ducks are now 10-8 with the two losses. Stevens falls to 0-4 all-time against the Cougars. Kean is now 12-7 this season.

The Rundown (Game 1)

  • Kean scored one run in the bottom of the first to take the early lead.
  • The Cougars would double their advantage in the bottom of the second.
  • Kean piled it on in the bottom of the fourth as they scored four to increase their lead to 6-0.
  • The game ended after six innings, as the Cougars tacked on two more to make it 8-0.
  • Stevens tallied two hits in the game. Senior Jessica Guerrero had one while junior Rachael Prescott had one.

The Rundown (Game 2)

  • The Cougars scored eight runs in the second inning to take a big advantage early on in the game.
  • That scoreline would hold through five innings as the Cougars held on for the victory.
  • Stevens recorded two hits in the game off of the bats of Fischer and junior Emma Ruiz.

Top Performers

  • Guerrero, Prescott, Ruiz, and Fischer each had a hit.
  • Graduate student Elise Fauske had a sacrifice in game one.
  • Fischer forced Kean into nine groundouts in game one.

For the Opponents

  • Nikki Lusnia (5-5) earned the win in game one. She pitched all six innings and allowed just two hits. She also struck out seven.
  • Anabella Farinha (3-1) won game two. She pitched five innings and allowed only two hits.
  • Melody Caces had four runs scored, four hits, and one RBI.
  • Karly Messina totaled four RBI on two hits. She also scored three runs.
  • Maya Thompson recorded three hits and four RBI.
