Softball Trades Comeback Victories With Delaware Valley Friday Night

Stevens scored five in the seventh to take game one, while the Aggies picked up two in the tenth to steal game two.

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (March 29, 2024) – Junior Rachael Prescott had four RBI, four hits, and scored two runs across two games as the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team beat Delaware Valley 8-5 in game one, but lost 3-2 (F/10) in game two Thursday night in a MAC Freedom doubleheader.

Sophomore Kyra Fischer (7-5) earned the victory in game one. She pitched five and two-thirds innings and gave up 13 hits and eight runs. She also had six strikeouts.

Fischer (7-6) would then take the loss in game two. She pitched the final three innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Sophomore Ella Tozduman started the game, and she allowed zero runs and gave up just six hits.

The Ducks (11-9, 3-3 MAC Freedom) are now 3-1 in their last four conference games. Stevens is also now 9-1 all-time against the Aggies. Delaware Valley is 12-7 and 2-4 in MAC Freedom play this season.

The Rundown (Game 1)

  • Senior Jessica Guerrero and graduate student Elise Fauske each walked to start the game. Prescott then reached on a fielder's choice and reached second on the throw, while Fauske made her way to third. Junior Madison Subbiondo then tripled to bring both runs home as the Ducks took an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Aggies scored three in the bottom of the first to jump in front.
  • To start the third inning, first-year Emma Quattrochi walked and then stole second. After Guerrero walked, Fauske singled to load the bases. Prescott would then be walked, earning an RBI in the at-bat, to tie the game. The Ducks would be unable to score any more runs in the inning despite having the bases loaded and no outs, as the Ducks and Aggies became knotted at three.
  • Delaware Valley was able to score two runs in the bottom of the fourth as they jumped back into the lead.
  • Needing to score at least two in the seventh, Quattrochi singled and then Guerrero doubled as the Ducks put runners on second and third. First-year Maria Dante would then come in to pinch hit, and she delivered an RBI double to score Quattrochi. Prescott then singled and advanced to second, scoring both runners as the Ducks took a 6-5 lead. Fischer would later reach first on a single, advancing Prescott to third, which allowed junior Megan Curtis to hit a bases clearing single to give Stevens a three-run advantage.

The Rundown (Game 2)

  • After reaching earlier in the first on a single, Fauske found herself on third after a single from Prescott. Fauske would then score on a wild pitch as Stevens took a 1-0 lead.
  • The two teams would find it hard to score, as both pitchers were spectacular in the game.
  • Still 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Aggies scored one run to tie the game and force extra innings.
  • Stevens had runners on second and third in the eighth inning but were unable to bring any runs home.
  • With Fauske starting on second in the tenth, she would quickly reach third as she advanced on a passed ball. Prescott then grounded out, but earned an RBI on the play as Fauske came home to score. The Ducks led 2-1.
  • The Aggies came back and scored two in the bottom of the tenth to secure the victory.
