CHESTERTOWN, Md. (March 29, 2023) – First-year Alix Dry led the Ducks with two wins as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team defeated Washington College 4-3 in a non-conference match Friday afternoon. The match was played under Division I rules.
The Ducks ended their three-game losing streak with the win today. This now puts them at 4-5 on the year. The Shorewomen fell to 1-7 with the loss. The Ducks are now 1-1 all-time against Washington College. The Ducks now turn their attention to conference play, with Misericordia up next.
Stevens picked up just one win on doubles despite all the matches being extremely close. Dry and fellow classmate Lorena Piegas earned a 7-6 (8-6) victory on the first line for Stevens. Junior Emma Eguia and sophomore Anya Sharma lost in a tiebreak on the third line. Since the match was played under Division I rules, which gives just one point to the winning doubles team (Washington College won two of the three), the Shorewomen led 1-0 heading to singles.
Dry kept the momentum going as she picked up a singles win, as she is now 6-0 in her last six matches. Stevens also picked up two wins via injury, as Eguia and first-year Julia Chiovitti won without playing. With the match tied at three, first-year Julianna Gomez clinched the match with a three-set win on the second line, making Stevens victorious in Maryland.
