WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (March 8, 2024) – Junior Emma Ruiz recorded a walk-off single in game one, while senior Jessica Guererro and junior Madison Subbiondo each recorded home runs, as the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team beat Stockton University 5-4 (F/8) in game one and 5-3 in game two Friday night in a non-conference doubleheader. The games were moved from March 5.
Guerrero recorded her 100th career hit with her second hit in game two.
Sophomore Kyra Fischer improves to 3-1 with the game one victory. She pitched all eight innings for the Ducks, allowing four runs on nine hits. Fischer also struck out four batters and walked three.
Sophomore Ashley Allen (2-0) earned the victory for Stevens in game two. She pitched seven innings, allowing 13 hits and just two earned runs. She also had four strikeouts.
The Ducks (5-1) are off to their best start since the 2016 season, when they started the year 6-0. Stevens is now 3-1 in Weehawken and 2-0 in those that were counted as Duck home games. With the two victories, Stevens is now 7-22 all-time against Stockton. The Ospreys fall to 1-3.
The Rundown (Game 1)
- Stockton tacked on two runs in the top of the first as the visitors went up 2-0.
- The Ducks made the score 2-1 after the bottom of the first. Senior Jessica Guerrero started the inning with a leadoff single, and junior Megan Curtis was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. Junior Madison Subbiondo then singled, advancing each runner. Guerrero would score on a throwing error to cut the deficit in half.
- With one out in the third, Curtis singled through the right side to get a base runner for the Ducks, Later with two outs and Curtis still on first, Subbiondo was hit by a pitch, followed by a walk from junior Emma Ruiz, to load the bases for the Ducks. Junior Rachael Prescott then delivered a two-RBI single to right field, scoring Curtis on Subbiondo, to give the Ducks a 3-2 advantage.
- Guerrero hit her seventh career home run in the bottom of the fourth, as she hit a solo shot to left field to give Stevens a 4-1 lead.
- Stockton tacked on one run in both the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game at four.
- After holding the Ospreys scoreless in the top of the eighth, first-year Elizabeth Kirstein started the bottom half on second for the Ducks. With the first at-bat, Subbiondo reached on a fielder's choice, with Kirstein advancing to third. Subbiondo stole second, but it wouldn't matter as Ruiz delivered a walk-off single through the left side to score Kirstein and give Stevens the win.
The Rundown (Game 2)
- The Ducks jumped on the Ospreys in game two, scoring three runs in the first. With one out in the inning and Guerrero on second, Ruiz singled up the middle to score Guerrero and advanced to second on the throw. In the next at-bat, Subbiondo tallied her first homer of the season as she blasted the ball to left field to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead.
- Stockton got back in the game with two runs in the third.
- The Ospreys added another run in the top of the fourth to tie the game.
- Stevens re-took the lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a pair of Stockton errors. Subbiondo scored the run.
- Guerrero continued to have a big day as she hit a double to start the fifth. First-year Larissa Cooper pinch ran for her. After Curtis hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Cooper, Ruiz hit a sacrifice fly into foul territory that scored Cooper, putting the Ducks up 5-3.
- The Ducks would shut down the Stockton offense and hold on for the 5-3 victory.

- Guerrero totaled four hits, one RBI, and scored three runs.
- Ruiz recorded three RBI, two hits, and one run scored.
- Subbiondo scored three runs, added two hits, and batted home three.
- Cooper scored her first career run in game two.
- Prescott had one hit and two RBI in game one.
- Subbiondo also stole a base.

- Lexi Liquori (0-1) lost game one in three innings of relief. She allowed one run on two hits. Nerina Tramp started the game, giving up four runs on five hits.
- Mia Barone (0-2) took the loss in game two. She gave up four runs on four hits.
- Caitlin Cetrulo had four hits and scored three runs.
- Megan Sears had four hits and two RBI.
- Emily Spencer also had four hits and scored twice.
