HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 10, 2024) - Sophomore Maddie Hogan tallied a career-high eight points, while junior Emily Smart scored three times and provided four helpers, as the No. 13 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team defeated King's 25-2 in a MAC Freedom contest Wednesday night at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Stevens responded from last night's loss in a big way as they crushed King's to earn their ninth win of the year. They also remain undefeated in MAC Freedom play as their record currently sits at 2-0. The Ducks remain perfect at home this season, improving to 6-0 at the DeBaun Athletic Complex. Stevens is now 4-0 all-time against the Monarchs. King's drops to 1-11 and 0-3 in MAC Freedom play.
It took just 39 seconds for the Ducks to get on the scoresheet, as sophomore Maddie Hogan found the back of the net to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Just 11 seconds later, sophomore Stefanie Sellitto doubled the Ducks' advantage. With 13:47 on the clock, Hogan doubled her goal tally, with junior Emily Smart providing the assist. After graduate student Zoe Cook scored to make it 4-0, Hogan tallied her hat trick off of a free-position attempt as the Ducks went up five. After King's scored their first of the game at the 12:08 mark, Stevens responded less than two minutes later to restore the five goal advantage, as Zoe Cook tallied her second on an assist from Hogan. King's would not go away though, as they struck next to make it a 6-2 game. Later on, Zoe Cook would make it a hat trick with 8:50 left on the clock. Juniors Anna Velardi and Alison Lax (x2), Sellitto, Hogan, Smart (x2) each added goals in the first, as the Ducks led 14-2 after one. To kick off the second, Sellitto recorded her hat trick as Zoe Cook assisted. A few minutes later, Smart also picked up a hat trick. Neither team would score in the final 11:05 of the half, as the Ducks took a 16-2 lead into the second.
Stevens would tack an another goal to start the third quarter, as first-year Kamrn Kramer found the back of the net on an assist from fellow classmate Abby O'Brien. With 7:16 on the clock, first-year Sammy Renda buried her first career goal. A few minutes after Renda's goal, Kramer tallied her second of the day. Stevens would take a 19-2 advantage in the fourth. The fourth quarter started similarly to the other quarters, as sophomore Rebecca Guerra put the Ducks on the scoreboard. Kramer then scored her third of the game just over three minutes later. Hogan assisted both of those goals. Hogan would then tally her fifth of the year with 10:09 on the clock as the Ducks led by 20. Lax would also tally a hat trick in the game, as she scored midway through the fourth quarter. Renda would tally another goal later in the game on an assist from first-year Margaret Palmer, while Kramer added one more as well, as the Ducks cruised to the victory.
