HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 13, 2024) – Graduate student Ben Tobio totaled five hits and scored four runs, while senior Christian Kreiser delivered a three-run moonshot in game two, as the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team lost to DeSales 1-0 (F/7) in game one and won 12-1 (F/7) in game two Saturday night in a MAC Freedom doubleheader.
The Ducks celebrated senior day and honored seniors Johnny Albrecht, Jacob Buurman, Jack Irby, Axel Johnson, Christian Kreiser, Peter Mastropolo, Kieran O'Brien, Marc Rivera, Jack Stafford, and Frank Tonina.
Sophomore Erik Sibbach (7-2) took the loss in game one. He pitched all seven innings and gave up just the one run on five hits. He also struck out two batters.
Graduate student Leo Bristow (2-2) picked up the win in game two. He pitched up five innings and gave up just one run on six hits while striking out six batters. Junior Will Staviski and sophomore Jonah Swarts each pitched one inning and allowed no runs.
With the split, the Ducks and Bulldogs will fight to win the series in tomorrow's rubber match at DeSales. Stevens is now 17-10 on the year. They also have a 9-5 record in conference play, which sits them third in the current standings. The Ducks are now 8-2 in home games this year.
The two teams remain almost even historically after today's split. The Ducks are 10-9 all-time against DeSales. The Bulldogs are now 14-14 for the season, with a 8-6 record in MAC Freedom play.
The Rundown (Game 1)
- The two teams combined for five hits in the first three innings as the game remained tied at zero.
- The Bulldogs scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth.
- Stevens had runners on first and second with no outs in the fourth, but were unable to convert.
- Kreiser crushed a ball that hit the right field fence in the seventh, but he was thrown out at second by the right fielder. The Ducks would not be able to score in the inning, as the Bulldogs held on for the win.
The Rundown (Game 2)
- DeSales scored once in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Stevens scored their first runs of the day in the bottom of the first inning of game two. The side immediately loaded the bases, as Tobio reached on an error, followed by singles from junior Eli Somers and Kreiser. Graduate student Michael Reyes hit an infield single in the next home at-bat, which allowed Tobio to score. After back-to-back strikeouts, first-year Tyler Wilke singled up the middle to bring home two more runs as the Ducks went up 3-1.
- Tobio was once again involved in the second, as he singled and stole second with one out in the inning. After a single from Somers to move Tobio to third, Kreiser hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field as Tobio scored to put Stevens up 4-1.
- The Ducks exploded for six runs in the fourth. O'Brien doubled to lead off the inning, while first-year Chip Krese backed that up with a double of his own as the Ducks went up 5-1. In the next at-bat, Tobio singled to move Krese to third, which allowed Somers to bat him home in the next at-bat on a single to right. With runners on first and second, Kreiser blasted the first pitch he saw to right center to put Stevens in front 9-1. DeSales would make a pitching change, but Reyes turned on the first pitch the new pitcher threw, as he secured a double and advanced to third on the throw. Junior Zachary Boykin would then ground out but bring Reyes home as the Ducks went up 10-1.
- Already up big, Tobio continued his big game with a double to start the fifth. After a Kreiser walk, sophomore Dylan Fishbough and Boykin each delivered RBI singles as the Ducks took an 11 run lead.
- The game would end in seven innings as the Ducks run-ruled DeSales to secure the victory.

- Kreiser picked up four RBI, three hits, and three runs scored.
- Somers totaled four hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
- Boykin recorded three hits and two RBI.
- Reyes had two hits, scored one run, and had an RBI.
For the Opponents
- Michael Hooker (4-1) earned the win in game one. He pitched the whole game and allowed no runs on six hits.
- Ashton Johnson (1-4) lost game two. He allowed nine runs on 11 hits.
- Ty Atkins had four hits and an RBI.
- Gavin Zavorski tallied two hits and scored a run.
- Owen Fischl had a hit and an RBI.
