Softball Takes Game Two in Doubleheader Versus Drew

Prescott and Dante each delivered clutch hits in the victory.

WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (April 17, 2024) – Junior Rachael Prescott recorded a three-run triple in game two, while first-year Maria Dante brought home the winning run in that game, as the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team lost to Drew 6-0 in game one but responded for a 5-3 victory in game two Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader.

Sophomore Ella Tozduman (3-2) earned the victory for the Ducks in game two. She pitched the whole game and gave up three runs on eight hits. She struck out four batters in the outing.

Sophomore Kyra Fischer (8-9) took the loss in game one. She pitched five and two-thirds innings and gave up four runs on eight hits. She also struck out four. Sophomore Ashley Allen pitched a third of an inning in relief, allowing one hit. Junior Megan Curtis closed the game out, allowing two runs on three hits.

The Ducks (14-14) ended a three-game losing streak with the win in game two. The game two victory also ended a five-game non-conference losing streak. With the split, Stevens is now 5-9 all-time against the Rangers. Drew is now 14-12 overall after today. Stevens now turns their attention to a pivotal MAC Freedom series against FDU-Florham this weekend. The Ducks currently sit in fifth place in the standings and are behind fourth place Delaware Valley via a tiebreaker. The top four teams clinch a postseason spot.

The Rundown (Game 1)

  • Stevens had runners on first and second in the second and fourth innings, but were unable to generate a run.
  • After four scoreless innings, the Rangers scored two in the fifth.
  • Drew scored two more in the sixth to double their advantage.
  • The Rangers were able to add two more insurance runs in the seventh to secure the victory. Stevens totaled just three hits in the game.

The Rundown (Game 2)

  • It was a much better start for the Ducks in game two as they were able to score three runs in the first. Senior Jessica Guerrero was hit by a pitch to start the game, and first-year Emma Quattrochi followed with a bunt single to put two runners on with nobody out. In the next at-bat, Prescott blasted a ball to right center and was able to get to third which allowed the Ducks to go up 2-0. Dante followed with a sacrifice fly to bring Prescott home as Stevens took a 3-0 lead.
  • The middle innings went quickly, as neither team was able to add another run through the fifth.
  • Drew made things interesting in the top of the sixth, as they tallied three runs, including a two-run homer.
  • Needing a response, Prescott singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Graduate student Elise Fauske would pinch run for Prescott, and she swiped second. Dante then delivered a clutch double that scored Fauske and gave Stevens the lead. First-year Elizabeth Kirstein pinch ran for Dante. Later in the inning with just one out, junior Madison Subbiondo hit a single that scored Kirstein to give Stevens a 5-3 lead.
  • Tozduman was able to close things out in the seventh, as the Ducks earned a much important win.
