SCRANTON, Pa. (April 21, 2024) - Sophomore Stefanie Sellitto scored three goals and an assist as the No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team lost to Scranton 10-9 in a non-conference contest Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Stevens ends a four-game winning streak. The Ducks have now lost three straight non-conference games, finishing 7-3 in non-conference play. They also fell to 4-3 in road contests this season. The Ducks now maintain a record of 12-3 with just two games left in the regular season. Both games will be on the road. Scranton improves to 13-3 this year and evens up the series at two a-piece with the Ducks.
Despite the Royals scoring within the first minute to take a 1-0 lead, the Ducks responded with three straight goals, starting with one from sophomore Stefanie Sellitto a minute after the Scranton goal. Junior Alison Lax and sophomore Maddie Hogan each backed up Sellitto with goals as the Ducks led 3-1 with 10:38 to go. Scranton would add one more before the end of the first as Stevens maintained a 3-2 lead heading into the second. After four minutes of play to start the second, graduate student Zoe Cook scored her first of the game to give Stevens a two goal advantage. With 6:13 to go, junior Emily Smart fired in her first goal of the game, as Sellitto provided the assist. Scranton scored two more before the break as the Ducks led 5-4.
The Royals scored the first goal after halftime as they tied the game at five. From there, the Ducks held the Royals scoreless for over 15 minutes of game action while scoring four in the process. Less than a minute after the fifth Scranton goal, Smart scored her second of the game on an assist from Zoe Cook. Sellitto would add another a few minutes later, while Zoe Cook scored with a player down late in the quarter, as Stevens led 8-5 after three. With 12:23 left on the clock in the game, Sellitto scored her third, this time with a player advantage, as the Ducks went up 9-5. Scranton would then score the final five goals in the game as they stormed back to get the win.
