BAYONNE, N.J. (April 30, 2023) – Sophomore Stephanie Untermeyer and first-year Alix Dry each picked up two victories as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team continued their winning streak by shutting out #4 Arcadia 5-0 Tuesday afternoon in the MAC Freedom semifinals.
The Ducks (12-5) are on their longest winning streak of the season, having won their last nine matches. Stevens will now play for their third-straight MAC Freedom crown on Saturday, as the Ducks have claimed the title two of the three years they have been a part of the MAC Freedom. Stevens hasn't lost to a conference opponent since the 2022 championship match against Wilkes. The Ducks went 2-0 against Arcadia this year and are now 5-0 all-time against the Knights. Stevens won the two matches on aggregate 13-1 this year. Arcadia ends the year with a record of 8-7.
Stevens earned all three of the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. They all came in pretty convincing fashion, including an 8-1 victory on the first line from Untermeyer and Dry, and another 8-1 margin on line three from junior Isabella Dona and first-year Julianna Gomez. Senior Polina Odintseva and first-year Lorena Piegas continued their success together this season with an 8-3 win on line two.
Needing just two more points to win the match, Stevens got them via their first and second line players, as Dry and Untermeyer each earned 6-1, 6-0 victories over their respective opponents.
