No. 13 Women's Lacrosse Suffers Defeat to No. 8 Gettysburg

Leiby and Hogan each scored for Stevens.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (April 9, 2024) - Senior Emily Leiby and sophomore Maddie Hogan each scored once as the No. 13 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team fell to No. 8 Gettysburg 12-2 in a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon.

The loss drops the Ducks to 8-2, with both losses coming in non-conference play. Stevens is now 3-2 on the road this year. The two goals scored was the least amount in a game for the program since April 5, 2016, when they lost to then ranked No. 3 TCNJ 9-2 in Hoboken. Stevens is now 0-5 against the Bullets. Gettysburg improves to 10-2.

Despite the scoreline, it was the Ducks who struck first after five minutes had passed in the opening quarter. Leiby was able to find the back of the net with a player advantage opportunity following a Gettysburg green card. Sophomore Rebecca Guerra assisted the goal. The Bullets would tack on the next two goals to take the lead, but Hogan tied things up with 1:54 remaining to tie the game. Early on in the second quarter, Gettysburg found the back of the net to regain the lead. They would end up scoring three more goals in the frame as they took a 6-2 lead into the half. The Ducks recorded three shots on goal in the second.

After two minutes had passed in the third, Gettysburg scored two quick goals to push their lead to six. They would later add another in the quarter as they took a 9-2 lead into the fourth. Hogan and junior Alison Lax each had shots stopped in the third. Although Hogan rattled the post in the fourth, the Bullets would add three goals in the quarter to push their lead to ten and hold Stevens scoreless for over 45 minutes of game play to secure the victory.
