Women's Soccer Tripped Up By Scranton, 2-1

Scranton, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team fell to the University of Scranton 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Alina Friz scored the lone for the Ducks (1-4), and Claire Mulholland and Niamh Healy scored for Scranton (4-0-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens goalkeeper Kenny Donley was pressed into action early, making her first save of the game 2:25 into the match. The Royals had three shots in the 13th minute, with Donley making an initial stop. The second rang off the crossbar before the third was cleared off the line by a Stevens defender and out for a corner kick. The Royals found the game's first marker in the 21st minute, as Mulholland netted a goal off a feed from Katie Brennan.

The Ducks, who didn't get their first shot of the game until the 26th minute, leveled the contest in the 29th. Luciana Rodrigues found Friz, and the first-year deposited the pass into the back of the net to pull even at one all. Each side had a chance late in the half, but none went on target, and the two teams entered halftime deadlocked at one.

Scranton outshot Stevens 9-3 in the opening 45 minutes while holding a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

Donley and Scranton keeper Nicole Olsen traded stops early in the second stanza before Donley made a denial on the Royals in the 67th minute. The Ducks were awarded a corner kick in the 68th minute, but Lauren Alley's try off the set piece was stopped by Olsen. Both sides hunted for the game-winning goal, and Scranton broke through in the 83rd minute as Healy netted an unassisted tally.
