No. 25 Field Hockey Edged by No. 23 New Paltz

Hoboken, N.J. – The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team fell to No. 23 New Paltz 5-4 in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday afternoon.

Molly DiCampli had a goal and two assists for Stevens (4-2) as Miranda Britton had two goals for New Paltz (6-0).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks needed just 2:07 to open the scoring. Off a corner, DiCampli fed a pass into Sarah Kurczukowski, who batted the pass into the goal to give Stevens the 1-0 advantage. The Hawks leveled the game in the seventh minute, as Rachel Tama notched a goal with a shot to the top portion of the goal. Stevens peppered goalkeeper Gail Comiskey with shots as Gabi Moroney was stopped twice.

New Paltz took their first lead of the game at 10:35, as Britton tipped in a blast from Hannah Ackerman off a corner. The Hawks added to their margin with one minute left in the first, as Ackerman converted a penalty stroke. Stevens cut into the deficit 31 ticks later as Moroney fed Emily Smart, who fired a one-timer off the cross.

The high-scoring first quarter featured 15 shots as Stevens held a 4-1 advantage in corners.

The Hawks tacked on a fourth marker 3:24 into the second, as Britton re-directed Tama's shot off a corner. The Ducks had three shots on target, but Comiskey was able to prevail and keep the game 4-2 entering halftime.

The Ducks had consecutive penalty corners in the 38th minute and were rewarded with a goal at 37:52. DiCampli worked the ball down low and passed to Julia Zatyko. The graduate student took a reverse shot that eluded Comiskey, making it a one-goal game again. New Paltz was once again able to put some distance between the two teams at 42:48. Goalkeeper Lily Wierzbicki made an initial stop before Amanda Quenneville deposited the rebound to make it 5-3. Stevens made it interesting, cutting the gap in half with 6:21 left. DiCampli converted a feed from Moroney, but the Ducks could not get any closer.
