No. 24 Field Hockey Falls To Montclair State, 1-0

Montclair, N.J. – The No. 24 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team was clipped by Montclair State 1-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

Lily Wierzbicki made seven saves for Stevens (5-3) as Tori Sutera scored the lone goal for Montclair (7-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two sides traded shots on goal early, with Sarah Kurczukowski having the Ducks' first try in the seventh minute. As the opening period was coming to a close, Gabi Moroney fired a shot that was denied by Montclair's Sydney White. The Red Hawks held a 3-1 advantage in shots in the second period, but Wierzbicki made two stops, including one off a penalty corner, to send the game into the half level at zero.

The Red Hawks broke through off a penalty corner in the 35th minute. Sutera was able to play a ball off a defender in front of the cage, and it went in, giving the hosts the 1-0 advantage. Neither team had a shot until the 43rd minute, as Wierzbicki kept it at 1-0 2 with a stop on Gab Maisto. The Ducks hunted for the tying marker, gaining three penalty corners in the final two minutes. They were unable to push one across and fell 1-0.
