Women's Soccer Battles Back To Draw Rowan, 3-3

Glassboro, N.J. – Junior Lauren Alley scored twice to help the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team draw with Rowan University 3-3 on Wednesday night.

Nicole Angelini also scored for the Ducks (2-4-2), as Olivia Giordano scored twice for Rowan (5-0-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks nearly opened the scoring 58 seconds into the contest, but a Rowan defender cleared Alina Friz's attempt off the line. Angelini had two chances but was stopped by Calista Burke early in the first half before Madelyn Nau denied Lianna SanFelice in the 25th minute. The Ducks had two additional shots on goal late in the frame, but Burke denied both and sent the game into the break deadlocked at zero.

Rowan held a slim 8-7 edge in shots over the opening half, as Burke made six saves to keep it even.

The Profs scored twice in the first 3:23, with Giordano netting both off assists from SanFelice. The Ducks had another goal cleared off the line in the 55th minute, as a Profs defender redirected Elsa Bley's header off a corner. Stevens got one back, forcing a turnover in the midfield. Friz corralled a loose ball and fed Sarah Wnorowski, who took a touch and gave it to Alley. Alley fired a right-footed shot high into the goal, making it 2-1.

After Burke stopped Friz, the Profs regained the two-goal lead at the 57:02 mark, as Sara Wiedeman netted an unassisted marker. Rowan seemed poised to add to their, but a 74th-minute try rang off the crossbar. The Ducks pulled to within one with 11:25 left off a set piece. Bley sent a ball that Alley flicked on, and Angelini buried to cut it to 3-2. As time ticked away, the Ducks found the equalizer with 3:12 left. Sarah Wnorowski crossed in a pass to the box, and Alley's shot evaded Burke to tie the contest at three.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Angelini fired a team-high eight shots and scored her first goal as a Duck.
• Alley's brace was the second of her career, with the first coming against Delaware Valley last season.
• Nau tallied two saves in the tie.

FROM THE FIELD
"The team showed incredible character today to come back from two goals down. I am so proud of them. We have said all season that goals were going to come and today was the first game where I felt that we could have scored five or six. We played some great stuff today and now hopefully carry that belief into Saturday." – Head Coach Stuart Dick.

UP NEXT
The Ducks visit York College (Pa.) on Saturday, with the game time scheduled for noon.
