Maund's Marker Leads Men's Soccer Past Rochester, 1-0

Hoboken, N.J. – Graduate student Dylan Maund scored the lone goal of the game to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team past the University of Rochester 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
]
Maund's goal came in the 69th minute as Stevens (3-2-3) outshot Rochester (5-2-2) 13-6 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks had the first opportunity of the afternoon as Martin Fields' header off a corner kick in the sixth minute was snared by goalkeeper Santino Lupica-Tondo. In the ninth, first-year Matthew Murillo pushed his shot wide of the goal. Goalkeeper Guillermo Castaneda-Chang was pressed into action in the 16th minute, making his first stop.

The two sides jostled for possession for most of the opening first half, with neither side registering a shot for the next 14 minutes. Joseph Pinto's try in the 30th minute was the best opportunity for either team. The Ducks narrowly broke through right before the halftime whistle as Joey Bucchere's shot from distance missed the right post and went out for a goal kick.

Stevens held a 6-1 advantage in shots in the first half, with the two goalkeepers combining to make three saves.

The Yellowjackets up the pressure, with Castaneda-Chang turning away two shots in the early stages of the second stanza. Stevens, who struggled to find shots in the second half, put a shot goal at the 68:52 mark. Emerson Kekesi went one-on-one with the keeper and had his shot stopped, and Lupica-Tondo was whistled for a foul. Maund and Adam Berrocal surrounded the ball, and Maund rifled the shot, but a defender blocked it. He regained the carom and put the rebound home, giving Stevens the 1-0 lead.

The Ducks hunted for the second goal, as Alejandro Alvarado's shot in the 74th minute was stopped. The defensive unit of the Ducks locked in and held Rochester without a shot on goal for the final 40 minutes. Stevens did a great job
ofkeeping the ball deep in the Yellowjackets territory, collecting numerous throw-ins and corner kicks. Rochester had one final look with 11 seconds left, but the shot was well wide of goal.
