Women's Soccer Topped by No. 10 NYU, 1-0

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team fell to No. 10 NYU 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the 20th Annual Engineering Cup.

Kenny Donley made seven saves in goal for Stevens (1-3) as Rachel Kim netted the lone goal for NYU (2-0-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED
NYU attempted the only six shots of the opening half, as Donley made her only save of the first 45 minutes in the 32nd minute off Jessica Tonthat. The Ducks had trouble entering the NYU attacking third, as the Violets defense was stifling. The two sides seemed poised to enter the break tied at zero, but NYU broke through with 2:16 left. Off a quick restart off a foul, Rachel Kim fired a shot from deep that rung off the left post and went in, snapping the 0-0 game.

The Violets looked to add to their lead in the second half, with Donley making saves in the 47th and 60th minute. They nearly doubled the advantage in the 67th minute, but Donley was able to finger-tip the ball over the crossbar. The Ducks had their first shot of the afternoon in the 75th minute, as Abby Harris launched an attempt wide. Donley made three crucial saves in the final 4:59 to keep at a one-goal difference, but Stevens could not find the equalizing tally.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Harris and Angela Dinh had shots for the Ducks.
• The seven saves by Donley were the second-most in a game by the junior, as she stopped eight in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship Game last fall.

UP NEXT
The Ducks hit the road on Saturday to face the University of Scranton at 4 pm. The two teams tied 1-1 in Hoboken last season on September 16, with Elaine Kooiker scoring the lone Stevens marker.
