Five Finish in Double Figures as Women's Basketball Downs King's, 83-57

HOBOKEN, N.J. – All five starters finished in double figures for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team in an 83-57 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom win over King's Saturday afternoon at Canavan Arena.

Leyla Castro finished with a game-high 17 points (adding seven assists, six rebounds, and four steals), Audrey Kehoe added 16 points and nine rebounds, Dorothy Loffredo had 13 points and six rebounds, and Olivia Schubiger & Lucy Alberici each had 12.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kehoe had the Ducks' first two baskets and Alberici added a layup early, but King's took a 10-6 lead just shy of the midway point of the first quarter. Three jumpers between Schubiger and Loffredo put Stevens (9-6, 3-1 MACF) up 12-10, then after King's tied the game at 12, Stevens took control of the action with an 13-0 run that stretched more than five minutes across the end of the first and start of the second quarters. Isabella Duval, Alberici, Schubiger, Katherine Bogutsky, and Castro all scored for the Ducks during the run.

The Monarchs worked the margin back to nine, but a Loffredo jumper and Kehoe layup pushed the lead right back to 13. Following a myriad of free throws (12 in four minutes) and last-minute baskets from both teams, the Ducks took a 39-27 lead to the locker room.

After trading baskets over the first two minutes of the third quarter, holding a 42-32 lead at the 7:56 mark, the Ducks went on a game-changing 17-5 run over the following five minutes. Schubiger and Kehoe started the run with a basket apiece, Castro added three free throws over two trips to the foul line, Alberici converted on a three-point play, Castro drained a three, and Sugar Williams knocked down a pair of free throws for the Ducks during the surge. King's cut nine points off the Stevens lead in just over 90 seconds, but Castro ended the quarter in style, banking one in from 50 feet.

The Ducks remained well in control throughout the final frame, maintaining at least a 16-point cushion, thanks in large part to a 9-for-14 mark from the floor during the period.
