Women’s Swimming Dominates Ursinus on Senior Day During 177-84 Victory

HOBOKEN, N.J.The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team took the top spot in the first nine events of the day, eventually winning 11 of 15 overall in a 177-84 Senior Day victory Saturday afternoon, January 25, over Ursinus at the DeBaun Aquatic Center.

The 93-point win was the team's largest margin of victory this season.

The Rundown

In the opening 200-yard medley relay, the Natalia Brunetti-Adriana Bertolotti-Delaney Klaus-Kai Wong team started the streak of nine straight with a 1:53.40 in the 200-yard medley relay, more than two seconds ahead of another Ducks quartet – Sophie Patz, Eszter Kiss, Gabby Tyer, and Gabby Sokolik.

Dora Dvorkin finished a microscopic .07 seconds off her season best 11:04.00 in the 1,000 yard freestyle, touching more than seven seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Kiss rallied from .29 seconds back at the 150-yard mark for a .13 second victory in the 200 free, finishing in 2:00.88. Patz and Bertolotti took first in the 100 back and 100 breast, respectively, finishing in 1:02.66 (Kiss) and 1:11.64 (Bertolotti).

Hanna Matheson won the 200 butterfly by nearly four seconds, posting a 2:15.84. Klaus touched first in the 50 free, splashing and dashing home in 25.57. Kiss turned a .03 second lead at the 50-yard mark into a .71 second margin of victory in the 100 free, finishing in 55.78.

Patz swam the third fastest time by a Duck this season in the 200 back, winning the event in 2:12.67. The team's final two wins of the day came via Klaus in the 100 butterfly and Sokolik in the 200 IM. Klaus swam 1:01.63 (her second-fastest time of the year) and Sokolik swam 2:22.09, winning by more than five seconds.

Top Performers
Kiss and Klaus both ended the day with four top-two finishes, each winning both of their individual races. Wong also added four top-two finishes, taking second in both of her individual events. Patz won both of her individual events; Dvorkin and Sokolik each posted a win and second place finish in their two individual races; Brunetti and Bertoletti each took home a relay win and a top-two finish in one of their individual events.

Brunetti posted two individual wins and a relay win among her four top-two finishes, matching Kiss who finished in the top two of all three of her individual events. Wong posted a pair of top-three individual finishes to go with the 400-yard relay win. Sokolik, Klaus, McKinley, Matheson, and Patz all posted a pair of top-two finishes across a myriad of solo and relay events.
