Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team opened 2025 with a 72-61 defeat at the hands of Hamilton College Friday night at Canavan Arena in the Stevens Holiday Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half quickly turned into a track meet as the teams combined for 30 points in the first five minutes. Hamilton led 10-4 early on, but back-to-back three-pointers from
Tommy Scholl and
Kyle Maddison leveled things at 10. The two sides traded three-balls, then jumpers, before Hamilton (10-1) forced a Stevens (7-3) timeout with five straight points.
The track meet turned into a cross-country meet, with the phrenetic pace continuing under the 10-minute mark, with the Continentals opening a 26-19 lead at the 9:01 mark. The rapid pace eventually slowed, with the teams combining for just five points over the next 4:06, Hamilton holding a 27-23 lead at the 4:55 mark.
Anthony Loscalzo pulled the Ducks within one on a three, and Maddison made three free throws over the final 1:21, knotting the score at 29 at the half.
Stevens came out of the locker room red-hot, hitting four of its first five shots, capped by a
Mike Goodall three that gave the Ducks an eight-point lead, their largest of the game, and forced a Hamilton timeout.
Hamilton halved the lead, but Scholl kept Stevens up multiple possessions with a three-pointer and layup.
Goodall added a three-pointer and layup of his own, with
Lucas Green adding a layup as the Ducks remained in front through the opening 9+ minutes of the half before a 10-2 Hamilton spurt put them up 58-52 with under seven minutes to play.
Layups from
Jack Spellman and
Harmehar Chhabra pulled Stevens back within two, but a 3+ minute scoring drought followed and despite a late three from Maddison that briefly cut the Ducks' deficit to two possessions, the Continentals made seven of eight free throws down the stretch to close out the win.
