Men’s Basketball Wraps Non-Conference Play With Wire-To-Wire Win Over Oswego State

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team closed out the non-conference portion of the regular season with a wire-to-wire 82-67 victory over Oswego State Saturday afternoon at Canavan Arena.

The Ducks matched their season high with 14 three-pointers and made a season-high 85.7 percent of their free throws.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (8-3) hit four of its first nine shots, opening a 10-0 lead within the first three minutes. Tommy Scholl opened the scoring with a jump hook and Mike Goodall followed with a three off a hard-earned offensive rebound from Jack Spellman. After a Spellman putback, Scholl knocked down a three, drawing a timeout from the Oswego State (6-3) sideline.

After another Spellman putback, the Ducks went scoreless for two minutes as the Lakers halved the deficit. The Ducks' lead dwindled to four before two free throws from Lucas Green, plus free throws and a tip in from Spellman pushed the margin back up to 10, 21-11.

Maddison and Goodall each knocked down a three as the lead grew to 27-15 with just over five minutes left in the half. The Lakers cut the lead back to seven, but the lead quickly ballooned back to 15 after a Spellman three-point play, Goodall layup, and Maddison three, forcing Oswego State's third timeout of the half. Two more free throws each from Spellman and Scholl, plus five more by Maddison put Stevens up 44-30 at the half.

The lead fluctuated between 12 and 15 points through the opening 3+ minutes of the second half, a Maddison three putting the Ducks up 18 at the 16:09 mark. Following an Oswego State jumper, Stevens put 12 of the next 15 on the board, opening a 66-41 lead at the 11:58 mark, Scholl and Matt Leming each knocking down three's during the spurt.

Oswego State answered with the next 10, but a Maddison three and Goodall layup quieted any further threat of a Lakers' comeback, as the Stevens lead did not drop under 16 points until a last-minute three-pointer.
