Women's Basketball Rides Second Half Surge to 56-40 Win Over Ramapo

Mahwah, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team outscored Ramapo College 33-15 in the second half, rallying from a two-point halftime deficit for a 56-40 victory over the Roadrunners Saturday afternoon.

The Ducks shot 44.8 percent over the final 20 minutes after hitting just 25.8 percent in the first half.

Isabella Duval led all scorers with a career-high 14 points in just 25 minutes, Dorothy Loffredo adding 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Lucy Alberici and Audrey Kehoe combined for 15 points and 14 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jumpers from Loffredo and Olivia Schubiger put them up 2-0 and 4-2 early on, but a 12-0 Ramapo (1-11) run shot them out in front by 11, which Stevens (6-5) trimmed to seven by the end of the first quarter, Schubiger converting another jumper in the final seconds.

Both teams started the second quarter cold, the only points in the first 4:34 coming via a Ramapo layup. With the Ducks once again trailing by nine, back-to-back three-pointers from Duval and Katherine Bogutsky sliced the deficit down to three. Out of a Ramapo timeout, the Roadrunners maintained the slim lead through the end of the quarter, with another Duval three and another Schubiger last minute basket keeping Stevens within a single possession, 25-23, at the half.

The Ducks picked up the intensity on both ends of the court early in the third quarter, taking the lead on a Duval three 34 seconds in, pushing the lead to four on another three from Leyla Castro, then seven on a second three from Duval, holding Ramapo scoreless over the first four minutes.

The Roadrunners chipped a few points off the deficit, but baskets from Alberici and Loffredo (two) gave the Ducks their first double-digit lead of the day, with the Red and Gray eventually closing the quarter with seven unanswered points.

Stevens remained comfortably in front throughout the final 10 minutes, with Alberici, Kehoe, and Zoe Kashner combining to outscore the Roadrunners, 10-9.
