Men's Soccer Draws With Misericordia, 1-1, on Fields' Late Header

Dallas, Pa. – Martin Fields headed home his first goal of the season for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team in a 1-all draw with Misericordia Saturday afternoon in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mat Murillo nearly had a highlight reel goal from 30+ yards out in the 13th minute, but Santino Jannotte made a lunging save for Misericordia.

Ben Goldberg threaded a shot between four defenders that had the back of the net written all over it in the 26th, but Jannotte got just enough of it to deflect it off the crossbar, keeping the match scoreless.

In the 36th, Max Rokhsar played a through-ball in to Emerson Kekesi whose effort was denied by a sliding Jannotte. The slide sent the ball back to a crashing Joseph Pinho, whose rebound offering sailed mere inches over the crossbar.

In the half's final 90 seconds, Ethan Hagen fired a lefty rocket through a sea of bodies toward the lower right corner, with Jannotte again getting just enough of the shot to keep it out of the net.

After failing to record a shot on-target in the first half, Misericordia broke through in the 55th minute on a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Sebastian Montoulieu guessed the correct direction of the kick, but the ball sailed just past his diving save attempt. Montoulieu was pressed into action again in the 63rd, grabbing a header off a cross into the box.

After several attempts that sailed off target, Fields finally equalized in the 73rd. After a Dylan Falcone shot was blocked over the goal line for a corner, Goldberg delivered an arcing, curving ball center net, about six yards out, where Fields finally got one past Jannotte.

Lucas Mendes and Falcone had late shots stopped by Jannotte, as the teams drew for the fourth time in eight all-time meetings.
