DALLAS, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team conceded an early goal and could not equalize in a 1-0 defeat in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action Saturday at Misericordia.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (4-3-6) goalkeeper
Kenny Donley made two nice saves early on, stopping a 3
rd minute volley off a cross and a 7
th minute breakaway opportunity, while
Abby Davis had a shot blocked in the 10
th. In the 14
th, the Cougars broke through after the Ducks failed to clear.
In the 33
rd minute,
Sophia Murphy let fly with one from distance, but the effort found the hands of Cougars' keeper Lauren Mondor; that was the final on-target effort for either side in the first half.
In the 53
rd minute, the Cougars hit the crossbar, then headed the rebound just high with the first two shots of the half for either side.
Two minutes later,
Luciana Rodrigues played a ball into the box for
Lauren Alley, but the ball rolled mere inches in front of a sliding effort from the senior.
In the 59
th, Donley made arguably her finest save of the day, denying a left-footed tap with her feet at the top of the six-yard box; the senior added her final save of the day in the 77
th.
The Ducks put forth a strong effort, but could not break through a Misericordia (9-2-1, 2-0) defense that had allowed just seven goals in 11 matches entering Saturday.
