HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team improved to 4-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play with a sweep of King's Wednesday night at Canavan Arena.
Stevens (15-8, 4-1 MACF) won 25-7, 25-16, 25-17 for its third straight win and ninth in its last 11 matches overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks spread the wealth during a first set that culminated with them hitting a whopping .633 (19 kills, 30 swings, no errors). The Ducks led 5-1, 8-2, 13-4, and 22-6 during the set, taking 15 of the final 18 points.
Alyssa O'Neal led the way with seven kills,
Ella Boland had four,
Sarah Bolduc &
Eva Tarolli each had three, and
Vivian Lisboa had two.
The second set appeared to be heading the same way as the first after the Ducks went up 7-1, but King's worked the margin back to four on several occasions, the latest being 12-8. The lead fluctuated between five and seven points for the majority of the latter stages before a service error and back-to-back Bolduc kills put the Red and Gray up two sets. O'Neal had six more kills in the set, Bolduc had five, and Boland had three.
The Ducks took command early in the third set, going up 9-2, but King's came all the way back to lead 12-11. Out of a Stevens timeout, the Ducks responded forcefully, reeling off six straight points, claiming a lead that did not dwindle under four points the rest of the set as they closed out the sweep.
Ella Kraver had five kills in the set, while Lisboa/Boland/Bolduc all had three.
