HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 1-0 win over Lebanon Valley in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play Saturday afternoon from DeBaun Athletic Complex.
With the win, Stevens (7-3-6, 4-1 MACF) leap-frogged the Dutchmen for sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
Prior to the match, the team honored the team's four members completing their eligibility after the conclusion of this season:
Kenny Donley,
Sarah Wnorowski,
Angela Dinh, and
Lauren Alley.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After 15+ minutes without a shot from either side,
Alana Odom made the first one of the day count as she got just enough of a touch on a ball played into the box from
Taylor Truglia to get by the last defender between her and the goal, then beat the sprawl of Lebanon Valley keeper Camryn Porter.
Malia Chopra missed just high with a long-distance attempt in the 28
th,
Sophia Murphy also went high two minutes later,
Molly McCann and
Luciana Rodrigues had on-target attempts stopped by Porter in the 32
nd and 39
th, & Chopra,
Stella Genin, and McCann all missed wide left in the 33
rd, 39
th, and 43
rd. Stevens dominated possession early on, not allowing a shot until more than five minutes into the second half.
Alley just missed the top left corner in the opening minute of the second half, Murphy curved one wide left two minutes later.
In the 52
nd minute, the Dutchmen finally recorded their first shot attempt of the day, a mistimed volley that went well wide of the net.
Stella Genin had a great look in the box in the 73
rd blocked by a Lebanon Valley defender.
With the Ducks still controlling possession,
Alina Friz rolled one past a charging Porter, but just wide of the right post in the 87
th.
The near misses made no difference in the end as Stevens closed out arguably its most dominating defensive performance of the year.
