Women's Soccer to Face Virginia Wesleyan in NCAA Tournament First Round

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team heads to Baltimore this weekend for the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

The Ducks, who earned the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, will face Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Johns Hopkins University. The host Blue Jays will take on St. John Fisher University at 5:00 p.m., with the two winners meeting Sunday night at 7:00 p.m.

Stevens captured its first MAC Freedom title since 2019 with a 3-0 victory over Misericordia University in Saturday's championship match, snapping the Cougars' 46-match winning streak against MAC Freedom opponents. Junior Molly McCann was named the Tournament MVP after scoring twice in the second half. The Ducks enter the NCAA Tournament on a seven-match winning streak, having allowed just two goals during that span. Senior Alana Odom leads Stevens with nine goals, as the Ducks have outscored their opponents 40-13 this season.

Virginia Wesleyan (15-3-3) enters the tournament as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference runner-up after falling to Washington and Lee in penalty kicks. Sheynne Diaz leads the Marlins with 21 points on nine goals and three assists, while Alexis Manfredi has added seven goals. Like Stevens, Virginia Wesleyan has allowed just 13 goals all season. Goalkeeper Allie Greco owns a 10-3-3 record with 42 saves.

Host Johns Hopkins captured its 16th Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Swarthmore College. Maria Romo-Nichols scored the game-winner in the 88th minute. Carolyn Johnson leads the Blue Jays with 10 goals, while goalkeeper Ella Kruntchev holds a 13-3-0 record with 28 saves.

Rounding out the four-team pod is St. John Fisher University, which earned the Empire 8 Conference's automatic bid with a 13-4-2 record. The Cardinals are riding a seven-match winning streak after defeating Houghton, Nazareth, and Brockport to claim their first E8 crown. Francesca Logrippo scored the golden goal in overtime against Brockport to secure the title.
