HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team held Ramapo without a made three-pointer while knocking down 10 themselves in a 60-29 win over the Roadrunners Wednesday afternoon from Canavan Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Leyla Castro provided the spark for the Ducks early, scoring the team's first 11 points including a 3-for-4 clip from three-point territory.
Emily Marinelli and
Isabella Duval each added a three-pointer late, staking Stevens (2-0) to a 17-6 lead at the end of the quarter. The Ducks were 5-for-7 from beyond the arc over the opening 10 minutes.
Duval kept the hot long-range shooting going in the second, knocking down another three for a 20-6 Stevens lead. The senior sandwiched
another three around an
Audrey Kehoe layup and a
Dorothy Loffredo jumper as the lead ballooned to 20, 27-7. CeeJay Thomas added a pair of late layups, putting the Red and Gray up 31-9 at the half. The Stevens' defense held Ramapo to a 1-for-11 clip from the floor in the quarter.
Loffredo, Kehoe, and Schubiger each had a layup early in the third quarter with Duval knocking down her fourth three of the game for a 40-12 lead. Another Thomas layup and a pair of Schubiger jumpers pushed the margin to 29, 46-17 through three.
Ramapo opened the fourth quarter with six straight points, but Stevens closed the game with a 14-6 run, with Marinelli knocking down two more threes during that stretch, as the Ducks, in the final seconds, were finally able to push the lead north of 30 on a Thomas layup.
